About me

Hi there! I’m the clucker-in-chief here at Chicken Clucks, THE website for all chicken-related information. As a poultry specialist, fellow chicken keeper, and enthusiast, I’m glad you’re here!

Why trust my advice?

Because I have a degree in Animal Sciences and over a decade of experience advising poultry farms

I call myself an expert because I have a University degree in Animal Sciences and over a decade of experience in advising professional poultry farms and feed factories worldwide. Although I also keep chickens in my own backyard, I am not just your typical homesteader and blogger. My advice and feed recipes helped to raise millions, possibly even billions, of chickens worldwide.

My Chicken Keeping Journey

My love for animals started before I could even talk

My parents love to remind me how, as a tiny toddler, I wanted to pet every animal I saw, big or small. So, when it was time to choose a career, studying animal sciences at the university was an easy choice. Along the way, my love for chickens really began to grow.

After graduating, I started working as a chicken specialist for a few big international companies. My job involved advising professional farms on housing, feed, and care. I also created feed recipes for chicken farms. These recipes have fed over 10 million chickens worldwide. I’m still working as a chicken expert today and now have more than a decade of experience.

A few years ago, I realized something was missing. I didn’t just want a “clucking career.” I wanted a “clucking backyard,” too. So, I decided to start raising my own chickens. It was one of the best decisions of my life! Not only do I get fresh eggs, but it’s also a fun, rewarding, and relaxing hobby.

This passion led me to start this website. I’m excited to share everything I know about chickens. My hope is that you’ll catch the chicken bug too, and maybe even start your own backyard flock. Trust me, it’s an adventure you won’t regret!

Why I love Chicken Keeping

It’s more than just a hobby

Why do I love chickens? I get asked that a lot. Honestly, it’s hard to explain because it’s more than just a hobby. For me, it’s about being outside, feeling the sun on my face, and the joy of caring for my little flock. Although I’ll admit cleaning the coop isn’t my favorite part… Plus, it is very rewarding to gather fresh eggs every morning to share with my family. It is a simple pleasure that never gets old.

What’s even more special is how much my children love our chickens too. We spend hours together watching their behavior and enjoying their unique personalities. It’s amazing how much you can learn from a chicken! For my kids, keeping chickens has taught them responsibility, hard work, and where our food really comes from. Eggs don’t just come from the supermarket! My oldest daughter even gave a speech about our chickens at school, and her classmates loved it. Moments like that make me a proud mom of both my children and my chickens.

stories from my own backyard

The Great Escape

One of my early flocks had a Houdini hen who was a master of escape. She could get out of the run faster than you could say “free-range”.  No fence was tall enough to stop her. I spent lots of time chasing her around the yard, with my children and husband laughing at me and joking: “Are you really a professional poultry specialist?”

Henny vs. Neighbor Cat

We have a hen named Henny who could star in The Bodyguard. One day, I noticed our neighbor’s cat sneaking up to the coop, looking for a way in. As the cat got too close, Henny sprang into action! She puffed up, clucked furiously, and charged at the fence, pecking at the cat. The startled cat made a quick getaway, and ever since, it keeps its distance. I swear the cat shrinks whenever it sees Henny. Who knew chickens could be such fierce protectors?
